There are opportunities to teach outside the college environment. One of them is working with high risk population, like youths who are low economic status and people who are in prison. These jobs do not make much money but is very self satisfying. In addition, the writer would be able to do creative work on the side for extra cash.
The program that focuses on craft is mainly made of workshops. Afterward the graduate can still find a teaching position. However, the education is really preparing students to be an expert in creating publishable works.
The best thing to do is to get with other artists. Networking is really key in finding and in creating art careers. Often people will start their own magazines or workshops as art careers. Others even open coffee shops or galleries where their work and the work of others can be displayed.
