Types of Christmas music sheet
By Bryan Adam
Christmas sheet music has evolved with the passage of the time. Starting from a simple single instrument, it has leaped forward to many instruments playing all at one time. If a symphony is performed by a group of persons using different instruments, then each of them has a different sheet having musical symbols for that instrument which s/he is playing. This independent sheet is known as part.
It may be given by one person for all instruments and can be given by different persons for different instruments. Some of Christmas sheet music types are briefly discussed in this article.
Lead sheet
A lead sheet can only explain the harmony, melody and vocals sometimes. Usually a script with chord symbols is placed above the lyrics using one staff with lyrics below. It is most general and simple form of sheet music which focuses on the elements of music rather than explaining the rhythm of song.
Chord chart
Contrary to lead sheet, a chord chart does not contain any tunes; rather it focuses on providing detailed information of harmony. This is most commonly used in jazz.
Full score
It is a large book, which shows detailed musical notations for every instrument discretely. This is type of Christmas music which is favoured in psalms.
Comparable organ score
The comparable organ score is associated with church music for vocals, sometimes aided with orchestra. It resembles with the piano-vocal score in many ways. Like in piano vocal score it staves are included for voices and orchestra is played by only one performer. It differs from a vocal score.
Tablature
It is designed for solo performance of an instrument. It focuses on the symmetric pattern and sequence of given melody rather than the production of melody. Its origin goes back to 17th century and it was basically designed for keyboard.
