Significance of eye movement in Christmas sheet music
By Bryan Martin
Music is read while it's being played, it depends how a musician scans it. Some do it silently and study it, while others prefer memorizing it and then perform. This scanning is known as eye movement in sheet music reading.
Link of eye reading to Christmas sheet music is that performance of the music is dependant upon better intake of symbols visually by a musician. This scanning process is explained by a lot of researchers as "root of good performance".
Moreover, this simple eye movement is used to develop sight skills in musicians. Eye movement in music just appears similar to eye movement in language reading, in both cases, eye of an observer just slides and jumps over the upcoming words in search of clue. But both of them are different in many ways. For example, a lot of people learn language reading in early ages because it sharply depends upon sight reading. But even master musicians claim themselves as poor sight readers but still they are effective musicians.
It has already been revealed by different researchers that eye movement effects tempo and communication of a musician. Better eye movements are, better the music rhythm and tone is. Difference between good sheet music player and a beginner is actually pattern of eye movement. Research has revealed that musicians with brisk eye movements have better synchronisation between mind and fingers and are better instrument players, while those who lagged it generally shown a negative trend as compared to first ones.
Eye-Hand span is another related term; it is distance between eye position on score and hand position at instrument. It can be measured in two ways, first is the length of notes between eye position and hand positions and second one is the time delay between last and first note. Similarly, eye-voice span is also present to determine the effect of eye movement.
